What is Degassing Boot?

Degassing boot is a special column designed to separate associated gases from fluids, crude oil, in oilfield facilities. Degassing boot serves as main gas-liquid separation unit by amount of volume of free gas separated from crude oil. Unit consist of vertical pressure vessel with internals, instruments, valves, and other necessary equipment. Ladder and special steel structures are designed to enable personnel for maintenance and inspection of equipment. It is widely used in Early Production Facilities and Petrochemical Processing Plants as the main equipment for bulk removing of gaseous substances from the process fluids.

Degassing boots are designed as per ASME standards, and usually made from carbon steel. Degassing boots work under pressure, but sometimes, designed for atmospheric pressure. In cold regions, low-temperature steel shall be selected, or degassing column is insulated to maintain crude temperature in waxy crudes. Manway of the degassing column shall be designed as per code & standards and allow easy access to the separator internals. Usually there are two manways in vessel body to allow access in many sections of the vessel. Dimensions of the degassing column shall be designed as per flowrate and pressure rating.
